Service
The natural phenomenon of lightning ...
... is impressing and unique. But its destructive force destroys great economic assets every year. This can be avoided: In our highly specialised laboratories, we can simulate the parameters of lightning effects. We test and improve installations / systems on safety against lightning.
Of course, we always perform our tests in accordance with the latest international and national standards. Moreover, we have been engaged with international and national standard committees for decades. Therefore you can be sure that we do not only work with the latest equipment, but also bring in our knowledge about the current standard situation.
DEHN + SÖHNE offers tests and analysis of lightning protection and surge protection systems for your safety.
DEHN tests and analyses
Our services:
In our lightning test fields impulse currents of different amplitudes, rise times, and duration can be generated. This allows the simulation of different phenomena of interferences.

Lightning Impulse Current Generators up to 200 kA (10/350µs) generate lightning impulse currents with parameters corresponding to those of lightning discharges. This allows for a simulation of a direct lightning effect on components and installations.
Surge Current Generators up to 100 kA (8/20 µs) - generate impulse currents for the imitation of indirect lightning effects and switching operations.
Hybrid Generators - prove the immunity within the framework of the proof of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of electronic equipment.
Follow Current Transformer (50 kAeff)
in combination with a Surge Current Generator 100 kA (8/20µs) allows
for a simulation of the performance of components in power installations at
a lightning discharge.
Impulse Generators up to 120 kV (1.2/50 µs) - allow for an imitation of the voltage loads on isolating distances at lightning discharges.
Impulse Current Generators - are used for tests of telecommunication equipment in accordance with the provisions of ITU.
Multiple Impulse current generator up to 4 x 25 kA (8/20µs) simulating multiple strokes.
Selection of test procedures which can be performed:
- Tests of Lightning Current and Surge Arresters
in accordance with EN 61643-11; EN 61643-21; UL 1449 - Tests of External Lightning Protection Components
in accordance with EN 50164-1 - Complete test of Low Voltage Distribution Boards
in accordance with IEC 61643-1; IEC 60000-4-5; EN 61643-11 - Tests of Components of Wind Energy Systems, Photovoltaik Systems, and Cell Sites in accordance with IEC 62305-1 and IEC 61400-24

Application-specific solutions
Do you have an application-specific solution for the protection of your electrical installation? No problem: We test it on impulse current carrying capability and provide an informative test report. Special solutions for lightning and surge protection systems can be tested and analysed in our laboratories at any time.
